At Insurify, our goal is to help customers compare insurance products and find the best policy for them. We strive to provide open, honest, and unbiased information about the insurance products and services we review. Our hard-working team of data analysts, insurance experts, insurance agents, editors and writers, has put in thousands of hours of research to create the content found on our site.
We do receive compensation when a sale or referral occurs from many of the insurance providers and marketing partners on our site. That may impact which products we display and where they appear on our site. But it does not influence our meticulously researched editorial content, what we write about, or any reviews or recommendations we may make. We do not guarantee favorable reviews or any coverage at all in exchange for compensation.

Farmers vs. Progressive: Our verdict
Farmers and Progressive are both good auto insurance companies, but each has pros and cons. For example, Farmers offers more potential discounts but may charge higher premiums. Meanwhile, Progressive offers pet injury coverage, which Farmers doesn’t.
Both insurers offer rideshare insurance, a valuable add-on if you have a side gig as a rideshare driver. Farmers offers gap insurance, while Progressive offers loan/lease payoff coverage. Both companies cap this coverage at 25% of your car’s value.
The best car insurance company for you depends on the type of coverage you need and your budget. Compare quotes from both insurers before making your choice.

Farmers customers who sign up for the Signal telematics program can save on their insurance premiums by driving responsibly. The program also includes CrashAssist — a roadside assistance program that automatically detects a crash and sends a notification. If you verify the crash, CrashAssist will contact emergency services for you.
While Farmers’ insurance premiums may be slightly higher than those of some competitors, the insurer’s many discounts and additional coverage options may help offset some of the cost.

One of Progressive’s unique offerings is pet injury coverage. If your pet is riding with you and is injured in an accident, this coverage pays up to $1,000 of your vet bill.

Farmers Signal vs. Progressive Snapshot
Both Farmers and Progressive have telematics programs to help you save money on car insurance through responsible driving behavior. These programs differ from pay-per-mile programs, which let you earn discounts by driving less.
Research proves that telematics programs can improve driver safety. One case study found that customers improved their driving behavior by 17% within a month of signing up for a telematics program.[2] Another case study saw a 48% reduction in phone distraction.
The Farmers Signal program uses a smartphone app to track your driving habits — such as braking and acceleration — and your mileage and phone usage. You’ll receive an instant discount when you sign up, and a further discount based on your focused driving score.
Plus, if your driving score is 80% or higher, you could win rewards up to $100. But Farmers doesn’t specify how much you can save on your insurance using the Signal program.
In comparison, Progressive Snapshot measures the same data as Signal, plus your speed. The safer you drive, the more you can save.
Progressive says that the average customer saves $322 per year on their auto premiums after completing the Snapshot program and renewing their auto policies.
You can use your smartphone to access either insurer’s telematics program. Progressive also has a plug-in device if you prefer not to use the app.

Methodology
Insurify data scientists analyzed more than 90 million quotes served to car insurance applicants in Insurify’s proprietary database to calculate the premium averages displayed on this page. These premiums are real quotes that come directly from Insurify’s 500+ partner insurance companies in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
